Norwegian Escape makes her way from New York slowly skirting around Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Island before heading northward.
I wake fairly early and decide it’s a perfect time to shoot some ship video before too many people are about. I start at the top on the open deck and make my way down to the Garden Cafe. It’s fairly quiet and the perfect time to record. On Norwegian Breakaway I tried to do the same, only at lunchtime, big mistake.
We breakfast in Taste this morning. I order my usual Eggs Benedict which are perfect and so is the delicious French Toast that follows. I never have this at home so it’s a real treat.
As it’s a sea day the shops are open and so we spend some of the morning wandering from Tradewinds to Sandbar. The Life is Good store has some really nice merchandise but we didn’t purchase anything…yet.
Toward lunchtime Peter heads off to the Cruise Critic meeting in The District Brewhouse. He is part hosting this but I decide to explore the ship a little further. We meet back up at Spice H2O where we then head to the Garden Cafe for lunch. It’s busy but we quickly find a booth. There is a lot of choice and we particularly like the layout on this ship. Nice wide corridors so you can dodge around plate bearing people who seem more focused on what’s on their plate than where they are going. There is some commotion as people spot dolphins tracking the ship. I miss them but hope I will get to see some before the cruise is over.
After lunch we both head down to the Waterfront for some blogging time. The weather is gorgeous. The sun is very warm. So much so that we have to find some shade. That done we head back to our cabin. I snooze. The bed is so comfy I couldn’t help myself.
We dress for the evening. Tonight is a cocktail party with the Captain in the Haven. It’s a beauty of a sunset and the added bonus is that we have multiple whale sightings off the port side of the ship. Impossible to tell what type but their fins slowly rise and disappear beneath the waves for some time as the sun sinks lower in the western sky throwing gorgeous light across the ocean.
The Haven is almost like a ship within a ship and is reserved solely for guests booked into Haven Suites. You can only enter with your key card unless you have a special invitation like we do. We shake hands with the Captain and some of the other senior staff. Wait staff mingle with trays of champagne and nibbles as we take in the ambience of this lovely area. It certainly made us think about booking a Haven cabin next time.
Dinner is in La Cucina which is the speciality Italian onboard Escape. We tried the same restaurant on Epic but were not very impressed. We actually skipped it on Breakaway but on Escape we really enjoy the food and service.
We have a flutter in the casino but the machines are mean and swallow my money rapidly. Peter has a little more luck. We end the evening dancing in the Skyline Bar. We even make it onto TV for others to laugh at our drunken moves.
